英语中“品牌代言人”的常见说法有brand ambassador, brand spokesperson和brand advocate。几种叫法各有侧重。《牛津词典》对brand ambassador的定义为：

这个定义符合人们印象中传统明星代言人的形象。虽然用了ambassador这个“高大上”的词，但brand ambassador也不一定是celebrity。 找到一段从另一角度定义brand ambassador的文字：If you’re not familiar with the idea, a brand ambassador is person who’s tried your product or service and loves it -- loves it enough to say amazing things about it. Not a paid endorser. While those can be helpful as well, they usually lack the authenticity of a brand ambassador, who is not paid and has either expertise in your marketplace or an "every person" appeal. 这么来看，各个“类型”的代言人都可以被brand ambassador包括。再看brand spokesperson。我们习惯上对spokesperson的理解就是官方的发言人。根据《牛津词典》：

《韦氏词典》的解释将spokesperson视为一种职业，更符合机构发言人的定义：

需要注意的一点是，brand spokesperson在“谷歌”中只搜索到63000条结果，而brand ambassador为10800000条，brand advocate为245000条。brand advocate是电子商贸兴起后的产物，虽然意思和brand ambassador差不多，但更适合用在网络背景中，比如社交媒体。查到brand advocate的定义（https://www.techopedia.com/definition/1419/brand-advocate）：

可见，brand advocate是消费者，通过口碑宣传产品。Advocate还可以指促进、宣扬某种事业的人，这时它比ambassador和spokesperson都更合适，比如：He is a dedicated advocate for gender equality（他是性别平等的坚定支持者）。综上，“品牌代言人”最“万能”的译法为brand ambassador，在网络时代以口碑推广为主的消费者代言人可译为brand advocate，spokesperson倾向于名人代言人，代言人与品牌的联系较为紧密。三种译法没有本质差异，除了一些语境，比如麦当劳自己推出的“麦当劳叔叔”只能用ambassador。需要注意的是brand spokesperson应避免产生品牌发言人的歧义。
