Since his birth in July 2015 at the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in Sichuan, Menglan has been the center of attention. Its "celebrity lineage" adds to his popularity. His parents are also "big stars": the mother, Mengmeng, is a renowned "film star", and the father, Meilan, is a famous overseas "returnee panda".

2017年9月，它被转移到北京动物园，随后与公众见面。 由于他是父母的第三个孩子，住在北京西直门动物园，因此有“西直门三王子”的绰号。
