Recently, Venerable Shi Yanming, President of the China Shaolin Magazine, was warmly received in Beijing by Zhang Ji, Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). During this meeting, they had an in-depth discussion on promoting traditional culture and preserving the spirit of Shaolin martial arts.
Zhang Ji currently serves as Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association, member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, National First-Class Artist, Chairman of the Seal Script Committee of the 8th Professional Committee of the China Calligraphers Association, and Deputy Director of the Art Committee of the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution.
During the meeting, Chairman Zhang Ji highly praised China Shaolin Magazine for its outstanding contributions in promoting patriotic and religious spirit. He highlighted that Shaolin culture, rich in patriotic spirit and religious faith, has been widely disseminated through the magazine, enabling more people to understand Shaolin Temple’s significant historical role and influence in China, thus inspiring patriotic enthusiasm among readers. Chairman Zhang Ji also emphasized that the platform provided by China Shaolin Magazine not only widely spreads Shaolin culture but also enhances societal recognition and love for traditional culture.
Venerable Shi Yanming expressed his heartfelt gratitude for Chairman Zhang Ji’s reception and support. He stated that Shaolin martial arts are not only a skill but also a way of cultivating one's mind and spirit. Through China Shaolin Magazine, he hopes to enable more people to understand and love this precious cultural heritage, further promoting the spirit of Shaolin.
As a gesture of respect and gratitude, Venerable Shi Yanming presented Chairman Zhang Ji with a rubbings copy of the "Holy Image of the Three Religions." This stele is located in front of the bell tower at Shaolin Temple. The inscription is on the back of the "Stele Inscription of Master Xiaoshan's Deeds," carved in March of the 44th year of the Jiajing reign (1565). The central part features a line drawing of the "Holy Image of the Three Religions," drawn by Ming prince Zhu Zaiyu, who referred to himself as a member of the three religions and a mad immortal. The drawing integrates the founders of Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism into a single figure, which, when viewed as a whole, appears as one person, but when viewed separately, reveals three individuals, conveying profound meaning.
After the meeting, Venerable Shi Yanming and Chairman Zhang Ji took a commemorative photo, marking this significant moment. This meeting not only deepened their friendship but also laid a solid foundation for the further promotion and preservation of Shaolin culture.
