Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers says Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green aren’t pressuring him to trade for a proven player this offseason.
The Warriors will have one of the top picks in the 2020 draft. Myers, however, isn’t sure if the Dubs are going to keep the pick or trade it.
“They want to win, we want to win. I don’t feel any pressure from any of them to do a certain thing. I know it’s been written that we need to win now and they need to get a proven player. They’ve not said that to me,” Bob Myers said of Stephen Curry and the other Warriors stars, per Nick Friedell of ESPN.
Golden State had the worst record in the league this 2019-20 season. Stephen Curry only played in five games, Klay Thompson didn’t play at all due to his ACL tear and Draymond Green struggled as the lone All-Star on the team.
The Warriors, however, will likely be back in the playoffs next season. Curry and Thompson will return to the backcourt together, while Green and former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins will take care of the frontcourt.
In terms of the 2020 draft, the Warriors can either take a talented youngster such as Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball or trade the pick for a proven star. The only issue with the latter stance is that there aren’t too many star players available via trade.
Unlike past years, most of — if not all — the superstars in the NBA are happy where they are at.
