　　本期人物：梅丽尔·斯特里普(Meryl Streep)1949年出生在美国新泽西州，她小时候的梦想是当一名歌剧演员，所以在上大学时，她选择了耶鲁大学的戏剧系。但在学习期间，斯特里普发觉自己对电影的喜爱更甚于戏剧，于是毕业后，她毅然踏入电影界寻求机会。斯特里普的发展非常顺利，1977年出演的第一部影片《朱莉娅》就让她名声大作。在这以后的一年，好运接踵而至，由于斯特里普在影片《猎鹿人》中的精彩表演，她获得了生平第一次奥斯卡奖提名。上世纪70年代末到80年代是斯特里普事业上的黄金时期，人们都不会忘记她在《克莱默夫妇》中扮演的那个与丈夫离婚的妻子，以及她在《苏菲的选择》中饰演的那个在纳粹集中营里受苦的波兰母亲，正是这两个特别的女性角色为斯特里普赢得了两尊奥斯卡最佳女主角奖。2006年斯特里普成功塑造了《穿普拉达的女王》中人见人怕的时尚杂志女主编形象，再次获得了奥斯卡最佳女主角提名。
　　摩根·弗里曼(Morgan Freeman)1937年生于美国田纳西州。上世纪90年代以来弗里曼出演了几部既叫好又叫座的巨片，他出神入化的表演才能得到了公众一致认可，成为最受欢迎的电影明星。在《罗宾汉》中他饰演了一个摩尔人武士；在《七宗罪》中他又成功地塑造了清醒、冷静、机智、敏捷的老侦探形象；而《肖申克的救赎》一片又让他第三次获得奥斯卡金像奖提名……

　　Early Career
　　Shui: Meryl, welcome to China.
　　Streep: Thank you.
　　Shui: And I guess this is your first time to China.
　　Streep: It is my very first time.
　　Shui: As I told you, actually, you came here long time ago, almost more than 20 years ago, in 1980, when Chinese viewers got the first glimpse of American movies in the first American Film Week, with the movie Kramer vs. Kramer. Tell us something about the movie.
　　Streep: Well, that movie was one of the first ones that really made me famous as an actress in the United States. I think, just before that, The Deer Hunter, and then certainly Kramer, was the first time I won an Academy Award. And I just sort of entered that world from being an unknown actress suddenly to being a movie star.
　　Shui: When you were playing, did you realize, or did you anticipate, that you were going to be nominated1) as the best supporting actress?
　　Streep: No. No.
　　Shui: Or ever imagined?
　　Streep: No. I never imagined it. I was a little part, you know.
　　Shui: So when that day came, was it a surprise for you?
　　Streep: It was a surprise, and I really fell apart2), you know, I just thought, “This can’t be happening to me!” And it’s very long ago, but I still remember the feeling.
　　Shui: You so fell apart that you forgot your golden statue in the bathroom?
　　Streep: Yes I did.
　　Shui: Tell me something about that.
　　Streep: Well I was in the ladies?room at the Academy Awards, and you know, I was in the ladies?room with many, many famous movie stars, so everywhere I looked, I just sort of got distracted3) and left my statue on the floor of the...
　　Shui: And you left.
　　Streep: Yes. And then I remembered and I went back.

　　　　Recognition from Peers
　　Shui: And you got so many nominations and awards, and you got, I guess you got so many statues like that. Where do you put all these statues and awards now, this time, after? You’ve become more careful...
　　Streep: Yes, I am, but I keep them at home.
　　Shui: You show them to your family.
　　Streep: It’s a...I don’t know, yes, I mean they’re around, but the moment of receiving them is the moment that’s important. The statue itself is not as important as the moment of recognition and the moment of receiving it, and the understanding that what’s behind the object. The object, eventually, is just like any object, but the respect that came from my peers and fellow actors, the people that gave me this recognition, is what I treasure.
