Liu Yang received her Ph.D. in Film Studies from the School of the Arts at Beijing Normal University in 2009. She began as a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Liberal Arts at Nanjing University, and is now an associate professor in the Department of Film and Theater at Nanjing University. Her research focuses on the contemporary Chinese low-budget comedy and early film in Hollywood. She is currently a visiting scholar in Film Department at Columbia University (2015-16).
