Ginobili put up good numbers over the course of his career, but there was a sense that he sacrificed the chance for any individual accolades by choosing that career path for the Spurs. However, that’s no longer the case after the recent Ginobili news that just came out. The Spurs legend is closing in on a spot in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, per ESPN.
Spurs legend Manu Ginobili is headlining the list of 11 finalists for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fames 2022 class. A four-time NBA champion, Ginobili is one of two professional basketball players, along with Bill Bradley, to win a Euroleague title, an NBA title and an Olympic gold medal.
Ginobili was a two-time All-Star and one-time winner of the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award. The Spurs legend is credited by longtime teammate and Naismith Basketball Hallof Fame member Tim Duncan for helping to set the tone for the team’s dynasty of the 1990s and 2000s by opting for a bench role.
Ginobili averaged 15 or more points per game seven times in a row and was an adept passer and three-point shooter for the Spurs. Forever a part of the Spurs’ lore, Manu Ginobili could also be a part of basketball’s history soon.
